Oooh, I'm just about jumping up and down with excitement about the books that landed on my doormat this week. Heck, why am I saying 'just about'? Actual jumping up and down occured. If I had any coordination whatsoever, I'd call it a happy dance.
Bought:
The Face On The Milk Carton - Caroline B. Cooney
The little girl on the milk carton stared back at Janie... an ordinary little girl, a three year old who had been kidnapped twelve years ago from a shopping mall in New Jersey.Fifteen year old Janie can't believe that her loving parents kidnapped her, until she begins to piece together things that don't make sense. Why are there no pictures of Janie before she was four? Why is the dress in the photo in her house? Something is terribly wrong and Janie is almost too afraid to find out the truth.
I love rereading old favourites like this one. But since I had a major library habit as a teen, I don't own most of my old favourites. This one's like a nineties version of Sophie MacKenzie's Girl, Missing.
Won:
The Hollow - Jessica Verday
From book cover: When Abbey's best friend, Kristen, vanishes at the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, everyone in the town assumes that she is dead. Everyone, that is, except Abbey.Struggling to come to terms with Kristen's disappearance and desperately seeking some answers, Abbey finds herself drawn more and more to the mysterious - and drop-dead gorgeous - Caspian, who keeps reappearing in her life. But Caspian has secrets of his own, and when Abbey uncovers the frightening truth about him, she starts to question not only their emerging love but also her own sanity.
Awesomely, I won something!!! And, it's a book!!! And, it's The Hollow by Jessica Verday!!! I've now read such differing reviews of this one that I really don't know what to expect. I'm intrigued.
For review:
Fallen - Lauren Kate
Summary from Amazon: There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori. Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move. Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce--and goes out of his way to make that very clear--she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.
By unbelievably happy coincidence, I was offered a review copy of this one by the UK publishers on the very day I WoWed it. Naturally, I'm incredibly excited about this. I even announced it in a team meeting at work. And believe me, my job doesn't require me to discuss YA fiction. So thanks, Random House. I (and my colleagues) appreciate it.
Just visiting:
Before I Fall - Lauren Oliver
From author's website: What if you only had one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life? Samantha Kingston has it all: the world's most crush-worthy boyfriend, three amazing best friends, and first pick of everything at Thomas Jefferson High - from the best table in the cafeteria to the choicest parking spot. Friday, February 12, should be just another day in her charmed life. Instead, it turns out to be her last. Then she gets a second chance. Seven chances, in fact.
Reliving her last day during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing.
Some time ago Lauren Oliver announced that she would be sending two ARCs of her novel Before I Fall off around the world to have an adventure. On her blog, she asked who would be interested in reading one of these copies on its round the world tour. Who wouldn't? I'd heard such amazing things about this book, and it was clear it would be one of those that changes your entire outlook on life. So major thanks to Lauren for letting me be part of this.
