Due to commitments in other areas of my life, I've had to make the decision to cut down on the amount of time I spend blogging. As of February 2011, I will no longer be accepting books for review.
While I will definitely miss the excitement of reading and reviewing books pre-publication, gradually I Was A Teenage Book Geek will go back to what it started out as: a place for me to talk about the books I bought for myself. The only difference being that, having been part of the YA blogosphere for a year and a half, my reading horizons have expanded dramatically. Thanks to the publishers who have kindly provided me with review copies over the past year and the wonderful bloggers whose posts I follow, I've discovered some new favourite authors, my genre preferences have shifted, and my tastes have become more varied. I'm immensely grateful for all of that, but since I'll be posting far less frequently I really wouldn't feel right about continuing to accept review copies.
I do have a substantial review book mountain at the moment, and I'll be working my way through that as usual. Beyond that? Who knows. I want to promote British authors, and I also want to promote authors whose books reflect the level of diversity I like to see in YA fiction, and we all know I love the Aussies so they'll be in there somewhere. In other words, I don't know what this blog will become, but I'm real interested to find out.

Aw, wonderful post, and I'm really looking forward to whatever you post, whenever you post it. Hugs from me.
I am glad to hear you are not going to disappear completely. I have just got to know you! Good luck with all your changes.
I am interested to find out too :)
I am doing more or less the same and Becky and I won't be accepting review copies for the merged blog.
I really think that it's for the best for my blog and I am sure yours will be as interesting as it is now!
Good luck for the changes :)
Your blog will be just as brilliant, with or without review copies!
Best of luck to you and your endeavors. I really enjoy reading your reviews, so I am glad that you will continue on with reviewing the books you've bought for yourself. Your blog is wonderful, and I hope all is well with you personally!

I think sometimes with so many review copies sent you lose track of what you really want to read for yourself; it becomes reading "for the blog". I hope you carry on as I really enjoy your way of writing and your insight.
Happy reading :0)
Everything that lives must change, so changes are a sign of life. Good luck with yours!
Good luck to you! I think it's quite a brave step to change direction and stop recieving review books. I love your blog and will read it regardless..
i love this post.
it reminds me of one you did a while back talking about: what/who are we blogging for (or something similar)
i am much happier reading books i choose and also find it easier to review books that i personally chose to read.
thankfully, i only get review copies from one publisher and that is more than enough for me. i don't like the feeling of reading turning into an obligation and reviewing being a chore...
very much looking forward to your blogs new direction :)

I'm pretty sure I'd keep reading and loving your blog no matter what you wrote about, Lauren! I'll look forward to watching the blog grow and develop in any directions you want to take it.
Good luck with whichever way you take the blog - I will continue reading whichever way you take it. I look forward to your future posts :)
Great post Lauren, I can completely understand where you're coming from with this. As much as I love receiving review copies and have made some amazing discoveries by being sent books I'd never have bought for myself sometimes it does become a bit of an obligation to read review copies rather than the books you got for yourself. I've not reached the point where I want to stop yet but I can see it happening at some point in the future.
I'm so happy that you're going to carry on blogging though, I enjoy reading your reviews & would miss you if you disappeared! I hope you enjoy the new direction your blog takes & I'll look forward to seeing what you do :o) xxx
Thanks to everyone who has commented.
To be honest I have *loved* getting review copies. I love discovering new authors I would otherwise have missed out on, and being able to spread the word about them on the blog. I also love that feeling of being part of the buzz surrounding a new book. I'll miss that, and if blogging was a feasible full-time job, I'd be applying for sure.
However, I'm looking forward to blogging a little differently now. It's great to know I have all this support. :)
Good luck with all the changes in the blog and in your life.
It's a hard decision to make. After stopping accepting review copies and having a break for a while, I'm reading to come back to regular blogging. I've missed it! I've cleaned out my feedreader completely and I'm building it up again too. Looking forward to seeing some new faces along with the familiar.
The fact that I missed this post just goes to show how crazy blogging gets. I am so busy that I hardly check my favourite blogs unless the post links for the BBC. I am doing my absolute best to read them and comment but it is a big task.
I understand completely. I actually love that you are going back to the pure beginnings. You are the reason I read John Marsden. It took me a while to get to it but I am loving the series. Let's have lots more Aussie recommendations.
I foresee me and Caroline going in the same direction next year. I can't see how I can keep loving blogging and be inundated with emails and review books all the time.
I want there to be a middle ground. I seriously hope there is.
I hope to see you back here soon but on your own terms. And if not, then I hope I get to see you in real life and talk about books and writing over independently brewed tea and coffee! x
